Orange is shedding up to 450 jobs in an effort to try and become the largest UK mobile operator within four years.
New Orange UK boss Tom Alexander is cutting 450 admin and management jobs and wants to reduce it’s dependence on Indian call centres.
This will help fund the creation of 500 new customer service and retail positions in the UK. Orange also plans to open a further 60 stores in the UK and plough more investment further into its 3G network to improve services such as mobile broadband internet, TV services. Next year, Orange will launch a high speed 3G mobile network reaching speeds of up to 14.4 Mps.
Shaun Collins, MD of mobile and wireless experts CCS Insight , said: “I think his plans are very astute. With Orange fixed broadband and mobile broadband networks, it is perhaps the best positioned mobile network to offer people ubiquity of connectivity.”
