Vodafone Is The Fastest UK Mobile Broadband Network

…. according to LCC International , an independent wireless engineering company who conducted comprehensive tests throughout the United Kingdom between March and May 2008.

In total over 28,000 tests were carried out across all the mobile broandband networks. Locations were chosen to reflect real life scenarios as much as possible, and included airports, motorway service stations and tourist areas.

These are the average download speeds from the five major mobile operators for a 2Mb file:

Vodafone :
1.2Mbs / 13.54 seconds
T-Mobile :
993Kb / 16.15 seconds
O2 :
812Kb / 20.17 seconds
3 :
764Kb / 21.44 seconds
Orange :
683Kb / 23.99 seconds

In May, Vodafone UK said it would be more realistic in it’s claims of up to 7.2Mbs downloads speeds and be clearer to customers purchasing a USB modem to access Vodafone’s high-speed mobile broadband network.

Althought the report was commissioned by Vodafone themselves, Neil Smith, Vice President of LCC emphasised the independence of the study:

“…it was made very clear that this test was to be done in independent conditions. We have been rigid in our methodology and did not disclose anything to Vodafone UK until the trial was completed. We have designed one of the most comprehensive assessments of its kind in order to generate a statistically sound report. As a result, we have been able to conclude that Vodafone‘s mobile broadband network is statistically significantly faster and more reliable that other operators to both download files and load web pages.”
