High speed wireless broadband gets another promising thumbs up with a cash injection from the European Union to support research into Advanced Long Term Evolution ( LTE ) wireless technology.
The European Comission (EC) will support Advanced LTE, to the tune of €18m euros, (£15.65m) with the first research projects due to start at the beginning of 2010.
Advanced LTE is a further evolution (no pun intended) of LTE which should see the first expected commercial deployments available in 2010 in Sweden and Norway.
Whilst LTE promises wireless data and voice networks with up to 100mbps download speeds, Advanced LTE includes a specification for a theoretical 1Gbps maximum transfer rates.
Is this another nail in the coffin for support for rival WiMax and Mobile WiMax technologies in Europe?
