Normally associated with traditional mobile and smartphones, Nokia has introduced a new product which sees it’s first foray into the highly competitive world of netbooks.
With the Nokia Booklet 3G, Nokia are targetting the premium end of the netbook market. The chassis is constructed from a single piece of machined alluminium, the same design as Apple Macbook laptops, and it sports a 10 inch glass screen which is HD ready. Another highly attractive feature is the integrated 3G HSDPA mobile broadband modem, no more fiddling around with dongles -just plug in your SIM.
Other notable features include up to 12 hours battery life,an HDMI video output and built in A-GPS. The Booklet 3G will be powered by a 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom Z530 processor, with 1GB RAM and a 120 GB hard drive. Nokia has chosen the new Windows 7 operating sytem for it’s first netbook.
Brace yourself, the Nokia Netbook 3G is set to retails at €550 or around £500. This is about the same as it’s flagship N97 smartphone, but also around twice the price of an entry level Asus Eee netbook. Granted the Nokia Booklet 3G is definitely up there in terms of design and specifications, but has the Finnish giant chosen the right price point for it’s debut netbook?
