In preparation for a new high speed 3G network in the UK, 3 Mobile have launched a mobile broadband dongle capable of data transfer speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. The Huawei E1750 replaces the ZTE MF627 (still available on Pay As You Go) and is available free of charge on all contract tariffs from January 2010.
Improve Your 3G Experience With 7.2Mbps HSDPA
The E1750 is a latest, next generation USB dongle typically giving you 50% faster browsing on large websites such as BBC, You-Tube, Yahoo and Amazon etc (compared to a 3.6 dongle). The modem also improves on uplink speeds, improving your experience when sending photos and large email attachments. The E1750 has the capability to provide theoretical upload speeds of 2Mbps compared to 384Kbps on the old dongle.
It’s PC and Mac compatible and also features a MicroSD card slot so you can use it as a memory stick with a suitable SD card (not included)
Future Proofing 3 Mobile Broadband
3 have yet to announce their new 7.2Mbps network, although the introduction of the E1750 is a sure sign that a rollout is imminent. Their website says,
“We’re also rolling out a network with theoretical speeds of 7.2Mbps. With this you’ll actually experience speeds of 5.6Mbps. We’ll show you how to check whether it’s available in your area soon.”
So watch this space and we’ll let you know when you can take advantage of the new higher speeds.

What a load of tosh these mobile broadband providers come out with, they love to boast of speeds up to 3.6 Mbit on the 3G network, I can pretty much guarantee you’ll never see 3.6 Mbit using any HUAWEI dongle even if your perched atop the transmitter.
As for 7.2 Mbit on HSDPA … dream on, unless your prepared to fork out an additional £100 for a quality usb modem such as the Option iCON 505 you won’t see anything near those quoted speeds.
The reason most mobile broadband providers are now using HUAWEI usb dongles is because they’re cheap, if you want high speeds on mobile broadband avoid using any them
Hey Riccardo,
I feel your cynicsm. 3 only promise that you’ll get a maximum of 5.6Mbps so the numbers are never the advertised speed of the dongle.
The 3G network is still pretty poor in the UK. We’ve got decent coverage in the main population areas but bandwidth is a big problem if you’re on the move.
Bring on LTE, that’s what I say!
