Orange and T-Mobile merger confirmed
Following much speculation, two of the UK’s largest mobile phone providers, T-Mobile and Orange, have merged under the banner ‘Everything Everywhere.’ Agreed in March, the actual merger process will not begin until 1st July 2010.
By drawing together the two companies and integrating into a single network, Everything Everywhere will be able to provide greater coverage for its customers throughout the UK. Encompassing 30 million mobile broadband users, the combined companies will have a 37% UK market share.
While the network will be combined, on the high street, Orange and T-Mobile will still continue to trade as separate brands. Chief Executive of Everything Everywhere, Tom Alexander said that Orange had a “premium element”, while T-Mobile had a “straightforward, value orientated appeal.”
Apart from a supposedly improved service, the new merger will save both companies a combined figure of £3billion, some of which, unfortunately for Orange and T-Mobile employees, will be made through a number of job cuts.
Will Orange and T-Mobile be able to provide ‘Everything Everywhere’? That remains to be seen…
