Question by cuddlymummy: Is mobile broadband better than standard wireless broadband?
I’m currently with orange standard broadband but its going to cost me a fortune to upgrade to the wireless tariff. I’ve looked at most providers but they charge up to £50 for a wireless modem. T-mobile are offering a mobile broadband for your laptop but is this as reliable as standard wireless connections, please help!!

I have had the Sprint Broadband card for about a year now, and i wouldnt give it up for anything!!!! wherever you have cellphone signal, you have internet! storms dont mess it up like some wireless, and you dont have to be a specific distance away from a wireless modem for it to work. Also it even works while you are traveling, so on long roadtrips they are great! I have college online, and it is a lifesaver sometimes!!!

land broadband is better ( it’s faster , has larger or no download-upload limits ) just go to Maplin or any other pc shop and look for wifi router it should cost 25-30£ , then you can set up wireless home network ( there is no real wireless internet connection at this time , they will bring and setup antenna on the roof of our house ).
but if you have to travel allot or use our internet connection just to check e-mail , brows web and download few song you may choose 3G mobile broadband
We have t-mobile in the Uk as well you know (person who said you have to be in america beacuse you said t-mobile)
geeeees, the UK isn’t that far behind
Well, you said T-Mobile, which tells me in America, but you used the symbol for British Pounds (I think), so I’m not sure where you are.
Standard wireless is basically taking a solid, wired internet connection, and broadcasting it so your computer can use it. As long as you’re within a good distance to your access point, your internet should be fast, reliable, and solid.
Mobile wireless with T-Mobile, while I can’t speak on T-Mobile’s wireless internet from experience, I can speak on Verizon’s, which from everything I’ve read, is faster than T-Mobiles (I also load pages MUCH quicker on my VZW PDA than friend’s with PDAs on T-Mobile).
To make this post, I am tethering, or using my cell phone as a modem. It’s relatively quick, however it can be slow depending on how good my signal is. I sometimes get hick-ups in the service and it will not load a page or two, and it really slows down if I load multiple tabs at once.
Mobile broadband is great for checking email or browsing 1 page at a time on the internet, but if you want to play games, upload any pictures and video, or download large amounts of data (read: myspace pages with lots of videos, music, and pictures), it’s not very good.
I’d stick with standard wireless.
If you are in Europe, I can’t really say how reliable it is. Like I said, it’s great for light browsing, but not for heavy browsing.
To the person below. I did not know T-Mobile was in the UK, I only knew about Vodaphone and another that escapes my memory at the moment. It’s not about you being behind, as your hand-sets are light-years beyond ours, but I don’t understand why a question from the UK would be asked in the American section, unless they’re all interwoven (I thought Yahoo! Answers UK was http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/)
